Description
Impressive deluxe grade Horstmann militia officers sword inscribed on scabbard "Presented to Lieut. Wm. H. Underhill, Fifth Company National guard, Seventh Regiment N.Y.S.M, as a mark of esteem from a few of his friends, New York, July 4th, 1851". Full eagle pommel over silvered grim with engraved eagle in medallion, shield and stand of arms verso. Brass chain from pommel to foliate and eagle motif cross guard. Etched 31.5" blade with eagle and motto, stand of arms, and foliate motifs. All brass scabbard with presentation, marked Horstmann & Sons, Maker, Philadelphia, etched foliate motifs, motto in banner "Pro Patria et Gloria". Overall 39" long x 4.7" at cross guard. Condition: Ding to grip, minor dings to scabbard, age staining to blade.
