American. 1860-1880s. Wood, brass, glass, metal. Metal handle. Brown’s patented #1 early lip chimney with brass top and brown and decorated finish. #1 early lip burner. G.M. Stevens, Deering, Maine, patented December 28th, 1875. The metal font can be lifted out of the wooden base. Chimney impressed, “TOWNSEND PAT.MAR.1.64". Burner thumbwheel marked, “PATENT MAR.3.1866 &SEP’T.1866”. Split to wood. Thuro III - pg. 107e. From the David Broughton Collection. 4 ¾”H to top of collar.
