American Carved Mahogany Dressing Table

mid-19th century, attributed to J. & J. W. Meeks, the shaped mirror in a beaded frame with a cabochon- and foliate-carved crest, on supports joined to a shaped marble top over a bowed frieze drawer, raised on a cheval base with twist-turned columns and stretcher in the Elizabethan Revival taste.

In very good polished and restored condition. The piece exhibits normal, minor wear and indications of age and use, mostly notably dents and blemishes around the perimeter of the door. It is stable and functional. There is a very slight amount of side-to-side movement in the deck if the piece is vigorously moved. No fore-aft movement. The marble top appears to be original. There are some flea bites to the perimeter edges. Mirror plate replaced. Lock and functional key present.
