Mickey Mouse & Minnie 4 Bisque Musicians Original Box Japan 1930s. The boxed set of 4 musicians is much harder to find than the more common boxed set of 3 musicians. The 4th musician is Mickey Mouse playing a drum. I always like to point out that the 3 musicians on the box cover are all Mickeys(no Minnie on the box cover) & they are shown playing instruments which are not represented in the box – a bass fiddle, a flute & best of all a piano. In this box are the 4 original 3 3/4” bisques featuring Mickey playing a saxophone & Mickey beating drum plus Minnie playing a mandolin & Minnie playing concertina. The original box is in great condition with a very clean, bright, colorful label. The inside of the box has the original dividers. 2 of the bisques have the original MICKEY MOUSE copyright 1928 1930 By Walter E. Disney sticker and 2 have a sticker that says MINNIE MOUSE Des. Pat. 82808 By Walter E. Disney. The 4 hand painted figures look to be unused, never played with & the white bisque faces are exceptionally clean. They all have some random factory over paint as well as places where no paint was applied, evidence of the somewhat sloppy factory painting process. The bisques were painted rapidly & free hand by women sitting at tables under pressure to get as many figures painted as possible in the work day. There was no quality control officer in a factory churning out bisques by the 1000s on a daily basis. The drum beating Mickey's shoes were cast unevenly with the result that he cannot stand on his own.
