Dorthy Beerman Metal and Enamel Plate
Item Details
Description
Dorothy Beermann created a colorful design of towers with windows harkening to European buildings of the 15th Century. The plate’s underside is a muted burgundy and grey enamel.Signed on the underside “Dorothy Beermann”This plate is a nice and somewhat rare example of Dorothy Beermann’s midcentury enamel art.Numerous accounts of Dorothy Beermann’s activities as an enamel artist can be found in articles published in The Pittsburgh Press Newspaper of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from the late 1950s through the late 1960s. An original artist’s label on one of her enamels provides her address as: 165 Orchard Ave. Pittsburgh 2, PAThese combined tidbits of information clearly document Beerman as a practicing enamel artist living in Pittsburgh for at least a decade and probably longer. Her obituary, published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Newspaper, mentions that she was a resident of Emsworth, Pennsylvania, at the time of her death in 2003, which is a town just outside of Pittsburgh.
