Continental (Likely French), 18th century; oil on canvas. A finely painted portrait of a woman in a royal blue gown adorned with creamy lace. She evokes a lively spirit as she proudly clutches her bouquet and peers curiously to the right. Her hair appears restless in the back, while small curls appear jostled from the updo she wears. Red fabric swirls around her petite figure as dark clouds gather in the background. This portrait is a wonderful example of portraiture during France's Golden Age.

Overall good condition. Slight reside along the bottom right area of the painting, as well as areas of flaking to the left of the sitter's face. Measures 29.0" W x 34.0" H.

From the estate and lifelong collection of William Garrett Hodges (1946-2014). Hodges was a Virginia-based dealer of fine arts, with specialization in prints and rare books, having collected for decades. He supplied and consulted various groups on antiquities throughout his career, including the White House, the Vice President's residence, the FBI, and multiple film and television series.
