An English 18-inch terrestrial floor globe on mahogany stand, Malby's, London, mid 19th century, the square cartouche inscribed "MALBY'S / TERRESTRIAL GLOBE, / Compiled from the latest / & MOST AUTHENTIC SOURCES, / including all the recent Geographical Discoveries, / J. WYLD, / Charing Cross & Leicester Square. / LONDON.", with a supposed Antarctic continent, a large cartouche within the South Pacific giving the estimated populations of the world; the globe supported in a graduated brass meridian, with a mahogany horizon band with paper zodiac and calendar, having an applied brass plaque inscribed "PRESENTED TO / ELLIOT V. WALTER / BY HIS MACY ASSOCIATES / WHO THINK THE WORLD OF HIM / JANUARY 23, 1959", raised on a well carved George III style mahogany tripod stand with acanthus and bellflower decoration, incurved splayed legs, ending in brass casters.

With typical fading, foxing, scuffs and wear to surface. Some cracking, flaking and losses to calendar ring. With cracking around north pole. The square cartouche with in-painting just beneath "LONDON", where there should be a date. The engraved brass meridian with heavy wear and toning. The carved frame with general marks, nicks, scratches and wear overall. There are triangular spliced patches to the inside foot of all three legs where a compass stretcher would have been likely joined.
