Description
Meiji Period for soup or rice. C.1880-10. 4 3/4" diameter. Bowl of angled form with thickened lip. Flared foot and grip. Very dark brown body color inside and out. The top is decorated in thick gold sea weeds, sparkling crushed abalone and three gold fish. All gold decoration is true gold in a lacquer matrix. Produced by the true lacquer (not paint) process which takes weeks of layering and drying. Additional details to the purchaser. A few small flaws to the finish and bowl edge slightly distorted, as expected for its age.
