Special Notes: Hiroshige has depicted here a summer shower over Ohashi Atake. It is well known that Van Gogh imitated this print in his oil painting. The vertically long composition emphasizes the speed of the heavy rainfall. The boathouses and other houses of Atake loom in silhouette in the fog on the opposite bank. This leaves one with the impression of heavy precipitation. The raft on the river serves as a clever compositional focal point.
