Description
Four French Provincial Carved Oak Hall Chairs, 19th c., consisting of a pair with a carved arched scroll and shield crest over a pierced canted back to a shaped seat on four tapered chamfered legs joined by stretchers, H.- 41 1/2 in., W.- 13 1/2 in., D.- 16 in.; together with a pair of shorter examples with a pierced heart cutout, over a canted seat, on splayed tapered legs, H.- 36 in., W.- 16 1/2 in., D.- 15 1/4 in. (4 Pcs.)
Condition
The seat height of the two darker chairs is 17 ½ in. The other two chairs are 18 in. and 18 ½ in respectively. They all have minor scattered woodworm damage throughout. One of the darker chairs has a leg with heavier insect damage at the foot of the proper right front leg. The back of one of the darker stained chairs wobbles. There are surface scratches and dings throughout. The finish is worn across some of the seats. Wear is consistent with age and use. This is a handsome collection.
