Description
A Decorative Maori Patu/Wahaika, Native American Style Miniature Birch Bark Canoe and Mid-Century Japanese Vase and Butterfly Tray; the club from New Zealand, of hardwood with deep incised designs and shell eyes to both animal heads; pierced for attachment with rope; a fine decorative piece, probably 1970's/1980's, length 15 1/4"; the miniature birch bark canoe of typical form, 14 1/2", the vase is marked on the bottom, "Made in Japan", metallic marble finish with red wash, old repair to base, loss to finish, the inner lip appears to be threaded so could have originally been lidded or an urn, 12 5/8" tall. The butterfly tray is 28 1/2" x 17 1/4", inlaid wood with center butterfly mosaic, the try is in need of structural repair (tape to back to hold it together) and there is loss to the butterfly mosaic and break to glass corner, still a very decorative piece.
