1930's Quileute North West Coast Native American Basket With Photograph Of The Maker & Letter From Quileute Tribal Council. Attached tag reads: La Push Indians Washington, Cedar Bark Roots Reeds. Photograph Envelope Marked: "Picture of La Push Indian woman, a letter dated Nov. 7, 1938." Letter reads: "Quileute Tribal Council, La Push, Wash. Dear Mrs. Fraser, in reply to your letter of a few days ago, sorry to say that Mrs. Margaret White Pulleu was 79 years old when she died in 1937. Her age is not known so is all the old Indians as there is no record of their births. It is just a guess made by First School teacher and sub agent when he came to take charge in La Push in the year 1885. I think this old lady Mrs. Pulleu that is tha name of this old lady whose picture you sent is... older than 79, I think she was between 90 or 100 years old when I first saw [her] and old enough to know I would have been 7 or 8 years old and she looked she was 49 or 50 years old now I am 56 years old.
