Description
Louis XV table clock, ca. 1740.
Green tinted body and Boulle marquetry, with gilt bronze details.
The movement and dial are signed: Paliard àParis.
The machinery has been overhauled.
The key and pendulum are preserved.
Measurements: 89 x 42 x 15 cm.
French clock with bracket. Its architectural structure is rococo-inspired, following the Boullé style in the marquetry, in accordance with the style in vogue in Louis XV's France. The marquetry is developed in beautiful floral trellises that cover the green-tinted body, and combines with bronze relief applications of sculptural quality, based on rocaille, flower and scallop motifs. The cabriole feet harmonise with the foliate motifs and the proliferation of scrolls and borders that adorn the gilded elements. A flamboyant crest crowns the dome and continues the line of vegetal motifs that enliven the design. The dial is numbered in Roman and Arabic numerals. It is signed: "Paliard àParis". Small pieces are set into the metal frame, which is chiselled in the central area. The bracket follows the same style, combining gilt bronze and Boullé marquetry.
