Description
DYLAN, Bob (b. 1941). “Bob Dylan at Philharmonic Hall Only New York Concert Appearance on Saturday October 31st at 8:30 PM…” Original concert poster printed on brown paper, printed prior to the concert. First printing of what may be the rarest Dylan poster, and one of the earliest Dylan concert posters. Approximately 21 ½ x 14”. Some creasing to corners, some occasional edgewear and a few short marginal tears, some occasional soiling, mostly at margins. Glue residue and paper residue on verso. A-. This exceedingly rare poster (only a few copies are known to exist) was for one of Dylan’s most important shows in his early career. It signaled a transition from his war protest music (his set list included “The Times They Are A-Changin’”) to more personal music (he performed “Mr. Tambourine Man” which hadn’t yet been released). This poster was supplied with a business card from Jay Nation of Raven Records in Knoxville, TN, with a note signed by Nation on the verso: “2 Bob Dylan original posters purchased from Chet Flippo”. Chet Flippo (1943-2013) was a prominent music journalist and biographer, who had interviewed Dylan on several occasions, so his owning such a rare poster makes sense.
