Description
**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Greece, Athens, ca. 5th to early 4th century BCE. A gorgeous, black-glazed oinochoe featuring an intricately painted shoulder of black-on-red horizontal registers of ray, meander, and ivy leaf motifs. Sitting upon a ring-shaped foot, the elegant vessel presents an apple-form body with a rounded shoulder and a narrow neck that flares out to a trefoil spout. A ribbon-form handle gracefully arches up from the rim connecting it to the shoulder of the vessel. A lovely example, with particularly glossy, almost reflective finish, created to store precious liquids like oil or wine. Size: 7.9" H (20.1 cm)
