South America, Argentina, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A pair of useful tools for Argentinian gauchos - a horse crop or whip called a rebenque as well as an ensnaring tool called bolas (or boleadores). The rebenque has a hand-carved wooden handle with a pliable leather paddle attached to the end. The bolas consist of tightly braided leather or sinew strands with a finger loop on one end and a trio of leather-wrapped stones on the other. The thrown bolas would quickly wrap the stones around the target's feet, thereby hindering its movement. Size of largest (bolas): 41" L x 1.75" W (104.1 cm x 4.4 cm)

Rebenque has fissures to handle as well as abrasions and small tears to leather paddle, and bolas have minor tearing to some braided strands, otherwise both are intact and very good. Nice surface smoothness throughout.
