French Louis Philippe Carved Walnut Marble Top Secretary Abattant, 19th c., the highly figured gray marble over a cavetto frieze drawer and a fall front secretary with an inset gilt tooled red leather writing surface, opening to an interior with open storage and six fitted drawers above three drawers, on a plinth base on ogee block feet, H.- 57 in., W.- 38 1/2 in., D.- 18 3/8 in.

This is a handsome example with signs of wear consistent with its age per regular use. The front of the piece is heavily faded/sun damaged. Two 2-inch pieces of veneer are missing from the lower edge of the bottom piece of wood towards the center. The casing of the bottom drawer is missing veneer along the edge on the proper left side. There are shallow shrinkage cracks to the exterior of the fold-down panel. The wood around the proper left hinge of the desk once folded down is cracked and separating. The outer proper right cover of the desk has veneer loss. The rear proper left cover of the marble top is chipped off with several smaller chips along the edges. Tape residue is present on the marble top. Desk height is 29 ¼ inches. Key is present. Drawers are in working order. No odor.
