Description
A Chinese Export Porcelain Armorial Coffee Pot and Tea Caddy
Circa 1750
depicting the arms of (probably) Fryer impaling Parker of Devon surmounted by crest of Fryer.

Literature:
David Sanctuary Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, Faber and Faber Limited, London, 1974, pp. 549

Note:
The articles in the present lot likely originated from a larger tea and coffee service commissioned by Sir John Fryer, Lord Mayor of London (1720-21) and director of the East India Company and South Sea Company, for his son John Fryer of Exeter in Devon, and wife Elizabeth, daughter of Francis Parker of Blagdon, Devon.

A nineteen-piece tea and coffee service, matching the present lot and likely of the same original service, was sold at auction by Puttick and Simpson in the sale of the extensive collection of Chinese armorial porcelain belonging to Frederick Arthur Crisp Esq., F.S.A. (London, 8-9 March 1923).
