Vintage 1800's-early 1900's Oval Ring, size 4.5. Total eight is 5.65 grams. It has a stamped top with a raised ornate design and a center raised seed pearl. The band is a scrolled ornate heavy/thick band. The band and the undercarriage frame test as solid gold - possibly 12kt. It is very strong at 10kt and just slightly reacts to the acid testing at 14kt. It has been tested many times. I had it looked at and the jeweler said the same thing - they believed it could be 12kt which was used more back in the 1800's and turn of the century - but it actually is likely higher than 12kt as it also tests at 14kt - just not as strongly as at 10kt. The upper part I believe is gold filled as you can see wear on the edge of the applique on top that has wear when you look under magnification typical of gold filled. It really is very hard to see without magnification. It would still be what I call very good condition given the very minimal wear on this piece. There is some wear on the open area on the undercarriage which is the "insert" piece that I believe is gold filled - where it would rub against the top of the finger where worn. This can be seen in the photos but anything on top is as I described above. This came from a PA estate sale where there were items from the later 1800's up to the 1970's. It has some expected wear/dust from being over 100 years old but it has a lot of life left in it. Great for the collector. See photos. Visit my other auctions and my Ebay store, Maria's.
