Chinese Qing Dynasty Guangxu Famille Rose Hundred Butterfly Porcelain Reward Vase. Potted in celestial shape vase, thick and tall, slight oval body, flaring mouth rim, cylindrical neck, raised on ring foot base slight concave. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in white base color which contrast against famille rose color depicted of hundred butterfly flying surround the outer side. Butterfly considered in China as also a bird. Symbol of conjugal bliss, of joy and of summer. From its homophony with the Chinese word die meaning the age of seventy or eighty, it is also an emblem of longevity. In Straits Chinese porcelain specifically, a pair of butterflies symbolizes the spirits of the forefathers. A butterfly or bird approaching a peony, a young man and the woman he loves.The Under-base bears a reign mark, a six under glazed red script characters reign mark. Made in The Years of Guangxu Reign Period of The Great Qing Dynasty.
