Attributed to Ernest Bieler, it does not have a COA. Medium: watercolor paper, signed E. Bieler, 23 x 14 inches. Provenance: private owner.
Biography: 1863 - 1948. The Swiss artist Ernest Bieler (1863-1948) was born in Rolle and grew up in Lausanne. From 1880 to 1884 he studied at different art academies in Paris. Until 1917 he regularly visited the French art metropolis, where he appreciated the exchange with fellow artists. However, he found his chosen home and most important artistic source of inspiration in Savièse and Rivaz, close to Lake Geneva.In his oeuvre Bieler followed the subjects of avant-garde art in Paris, but also focused on the depiction of life and people in the Valais. The mysterious and highly symbolic nature of his figurative paintings finally had a great impact on international Symbolism and Art Nouveau.Works of Ernest Bieler are located at the Kunstmuseum Basel, the Kunsthaus Zurich and the Musee des Beaux Arts in Lausanne.
