Description
Ca. 618-907 AD. A beautiful hollow-moulded terracotta horse, modelled in a standing pose atop flat and integral base. The animal features an elegantly arched neck with lubtuous long flowing mane, the head with closed mouth, flaring nostrils, bulging eyes under heavy eyebrows, muscular, brown painted body, the tail tied short. The saddle is decorated with a green sheet. Seated by a female wearing a long and voluminous robe enriched in red and white pigment, secured by a loose belt over wide trousers. She has round face with well-articulated features out in black and red pigments, the hair gathered in a bun topknot. The rider seems to be holding what appears to be a musical instrument in two hands. This piece has been precisely dated by means of a Thermo Luminescence analysis No. C123a57 carried out by Oxford Authentication, UK. The samples collected date the piece to the period reflected in its style, whilst also showing no modern trace elements.
