New England Militia Musket,
Adam W. Spies, New York, c. 1823-30.
40 3/8 in., .73 caliber round imported barrel with ring decoration at the breech, post-1813 Birmingham proof marks on the left side, the top stamped 'LONDON'; flat lock plate with foliate engraving on the stepped and pointed tail, marked 'A.W. SPIES/WARRANTED' below the pan, the inside unmarked; walnut stock with checkered wrist; brass furniture including a butt plate with narrow stepped tang, British Land Pattern-style trigger guard, long flat side plate with pointed tail, two cast brass flared rammer pipes and an entry pipe, brass nose cap, small rectangular silver thumb piece engraved 'AS'; steel rammer with button head and plain end.

Condition
Barrel toned to mottled brown with light pitting in the vent area; lock toned brown with light pitting in the pan area and functions properly, to jaw screw is somewhat stripped; stock has very minor blemishes; furniture is toned to deep yellow.
