Springfield U.S. Model 1795 Type II Musket,
Springfield, Massachusetts, c. 1809.
43 7/8 in., .72 caliber round barrel, the breech marked 'P' eagle head and 'V' on the left side, the top stamped 'US' and the bayonet lug marked 'P'; flat lock with pointed tail marked '1809' and 'US' over a spread wing eagle and 'SPRINGFIELD,' the inside of the plate stamped 'JF' and most internal parts and screws marked 'o'; walnut stock with trace of stamped initials below the trigger guard, the left side with carved initials 'HR' behind the side plate, left side of the butt with carved initials 'MA' and the right side of the butt with a small carved 'X'; iron furniture of proper form, the butt plate marked '1809'; missing lower sling swivel, upper sling swivel present; steel rammer with button head and corkscrew jag on the end.

Condition
Metal toned to deep brown; lock functions properly, one side nail is replaced; stock has scattered dings and dents; missing lower sling swivel. Breech is obstructed, no obvious evidence of reconversion.
