Description
Vintage Louis Vuitton trunk, circa 1890-1900, direct from the Vanderbilt-Whitney family. It belonged to prominent sportsman Harry Payne Whitney and his wife, Gertrude, the noted female sculptress and founder of The Whitney Museum of Art. Gertrude was the daughter of New York Central Railroad heir Cornelius Vanderbilt II; Harry was the son of William Collins Whitney, Secretary of the Navy. Part of their luggage set from Old Westbury, this trunk traveled with the couple to Paris, Newport, Palm Beach, Cuba, and exotic locations around the globe. Complete with original labels confirming the Whitney’s ownership and the LV serial number, 42834. A letter of authenticity can be provided to the successful bidder. [28" H x 44" W x 24 1/2" D].
