Property of a Savannah, GA Estate

Description:

After Sir Anthony van Dyck, Elizabeth, Countess of Devonshire, Oil on Canvas, c. 1800, unsigned, depicting a lady in a pale blue gown with pearl necklace and earrings, standing against a draped background with landscape in back left, with incorrect plaque 'Sir Peter Lely 1618-1680, Duchess of Devonshire' on frame and remnants of label on verso also misattributing the work to Lely, in a giltwood frame. Frame size: 52 1/2 in. x 41 1/2 in.

Elizabeth Cecil (circa 1620-1689) was the second daughter of William Cecil, 2nd Earl of Salisbury. She married William Cavendish, 3rd Earl of Devonshire on 4 March 1639. The original van Dyck portrait is at Petworth House, and there are copies at Burghley, Bisham Abbey and Hardwick Hall.

Measurements: Height: by sight 48 in. x Width: 38 in.

Condition
Overall good condition, craquelure, relined, small losses to paint center of top edge, some areas of inpainting in red drapes, particularly along top edge, and small spots of inpainting in landscape, dress, and hair.
