Kirby Roll (American). "Second Water Canyon, Arizona - Superstition Mountains" watercolor, 2011. Signed in pencil on lower left. A gorgeous Kirby Roll watercolor depicting Second Water Canyon in the Superstition Mountains just east of Phoenix, Arizona with beautiful Cholla Cacti along the running waters of the trail. All is delineated in true-to-nature hues of spring green, russet red, and slate grey. According to Apache storytellers, the Superstition Mountains are known as "Wee-kit-sour-ah" which means "the rocks standing up" and the Superstition Mountains are thought to be a type of purgatory where all Apaches visit, either prior to or following their death. A captivating view of this special place created in plein air and set in a custom frame under glass. Signed in pencil on lower left. Signed, titled, and dated in pencil on verso. This watercolor is set in a custom frame under glass and has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in very nice condition. The frame is also lovely save minor scuffs/nicks to the frame. Fitted with a suspension wire and ready to be displayed.
