Description
**First Time At Auction**
Native American, Southeastern United States, Choctaw Nation, ca. mid-20th century CE. A beautiful hand beaded bandolier bag made from wool / cotton cloth and leather, with glass seed beads, sequins, brass beads, and wool yarn tassels. Choctaw (including Cherokee, Chickasaw, Creek, Natchez, and Seminole tribes) have a rich tradition of beaded sashes and bandolier bags. Baldric sashes were worn by leaders, often with scrolling patterns on a red wool background, traditionally only using white, black, and blue beads - these sashes were personal symbols and were distinctive enough to help identify people from a distance. This bag is an artistic extension of this tradition, the materials, colors, and motifs adapted with the changing times and culture. Size of bag: 9" L x 9" W (22.9 cm x 22.9 cm)
