A FRENCH LOUIS XV/XVI TRANSITIONAL STYLE MARBLE TOPPED AND ORMOLU MOUNTED MARQUETRY INLAID TULIPWOOD PETITE COMMODE, GROSFELD'S, EARLY 20TH CENTURY, the demi-lune brèche d'Alep marble top above a central frieze drawer with laurel wreath detailed bronze handles, above two conforming drawers with matching handles and inlaid sans traverse with an oval reserve enclosing a wavy ribbon suspending a flower-filled basket, centered by a rectangular lozenge parquetry panel of various woods over an apron with a mount modeled as a lidded urn hung with laurel swags within acanthus leaf wreath and branches, flanked by tall ebony and blond wood fluted inlay panels, topped by gilt beaded laurel leaf garland cast bronze mounts and raised on short cabriole legs ending in scrolling foliate ormolu sabots, verso stamped "FRANCE" and mounted with a pressed metal label "GROSFELD'S / CHICAGO · NEW YORK · LOS ANGELES." Restored within last 20 years, covered in clear varnish, some nicks, scratches, dings, marks, small veneer losses and restorations, fading, gilding wear, uneven patina, discolorations, faint liquid residue spots, and surface buildup in crevices throughout.
