Hyman Bloom.Massachusetts, New Hampshire,1913-2009
Monochromatic depiction of Jesus on the cross propped up by two faceless figures while a putti flies overhead. Bloom was considered to be an art prodigy as a child, studying under artists Denman Waldo Ross and Harold Zimmerman who encouraged him to paint from imagination, not from life. His works developed into a grotesque sense of beauty, drawing inspiration from rotting figures, including Hans Holbein's " The Body of the Dead Christ in the Tomb." His works can be found at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Fogg Art Museum: Harvard University Art Museums amongst others.
