Description
Henry Clay: Harry of the West Bandanna. There is no question this is a campaign item from 1844. It's got all the slogans and iconography one could imagine. Made of cotton, it measures 25" square and is archivally framed. Clay's portrait (after Neagle) is in the middle, surrounded by corn and wheat. It is titled: "Clay Frelinghuysen. Tariff. Union. Harry of the West." The four corner vignettes show a sailor & farmer ("Agriculture and Commerce"), an American eagle ("Union and Our Country"), a workman & factories ("Tariff Home League") and a nose-thumbing racoon clutching the Constitution and pushing a ball along ("Rolling in to Clear the Way"). The condition is quite nice with none of the distracting, dark stains typically seen.
