DESCRIPTION: Henry Clay silk ribbon with raccoon and rooster graphic. Ribbon is for tariff and protection to American Industry during Clay, Frelinghuysen, and Markle campaign. The Whig raccoon thumbs his nose at the Democratic rooster, while choking him and asking "Can't you crow?" Published by Colon & Adriance Philadelphia. PROVENANCE: From a Philadelphia family. The consignor is a direct descendant of Mary Rittenhouse (1795-1873). MEASUREMENTS: 7-1/2" long x 3" wide. CONDITION: Discoloration and wear as expected with age. Fraying to top and bottom edges.
