Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Navajo, ca. late 20th to 21st century CE. A hand-carved wood roadrunner or Hospoa kachina doll standing on an integral pedestal, the underside signed "K. Largo." The figure holds a pair of coral implements in his hands and he is dressed in a cotton skirt, leather shoes and belt, with yarn and fur trim. The face is painted a teal blue with black and white markings, a beak nose protrudes to the front. Roadrunners protect against witchcraft and ensuring positive energies during the celebrations they appear at. Size: 3" W x 6" H (7.6 cm x 15.2 cm)
Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
