Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE; Western Europe, probably England, late Medieval Period, ca. 14th to 15th century CE. A set of 3 Roman buckles as well as 4 late Medieval European buckles, each cast from bronze or assembled from bronze components. The Roman buckles include a large ring with a scalloped border, a petite ring with a duck head pin and an integral actor's maskette, and a trio of rings with 2 appliques, each with 4 conjoined concentric circles. The European artifacts include 2 openwork chape-shaped buckles, an acorn-shaped buckle with an ovoid strap loop, and a two-lobed buckle with a hinged rectangular fastener. Size (largest Roman buckle): 3.23" L x 1.23" W (8.2 cm x 3.1 cm); (largest European buckle): 1.45" L x 0.96" W (3.7 cm x 2.4 cm); (Riker box): 6.125" L x 5.125" W (15.6 cm x 13 cm)

Condition
Each buckle has minor abrasions and encrustations, otherwise intact with nice patina. Hinged components on 2 European buckles are fused to buckle bodies and are unable to articulate. All 4 European buckles displayed within a modern Riker box.
