Description
Designed by Arthur C. Gould. Made by J. & E. Stevens Company. Cromwell, Connecticut - Late 1870's. From the collection of Edwin Mosler. Gravity effectuates the action of the Bank Teller toy bank. Coins placed on the tray in the teller's outstretched hand are deposited because his left shoulder has a free moving joint pin. An internal weight causes the bank to return to its pre-operated position once the coin is deposited. Stevens made a second bank based on Arthur Gould's patent known as the Preacher in the Pulpit. This illustrious pair are among the rarest mechanical toy banks in the world.
