Description
Advertising Danish Air Lines (DDL). Made by Gebruder Marklin Company. Goppingen, Germany - 1937. 24" Long with a Wingspan of 33". The Focke-Wulf Condor was developed as a long range passenger airliner by its manufacturer. It is a German all-metal monoplane mounted with four turboprop engines on the wings. It made its maiden voyage in July 1937, rapidly becoming a staple of many airline groups. However, at the outset of WW2, both Germany and Japan began to use the Condor for military transport and reconnaissance missions. This remarkable tinplate plane was most probably made for the managing partner of Danish Air Lines (DDL) as an adult aged toy. In his office, he would have been able to display it prominently and proudly. Det Danske Luftfartselskab (DDL), known inEnglish as Danish Air Lines, went into business in 1918 and operated continuously until it merged with Norway and Sweden to form SAS (Scandinavian Airlines System) in 1951. The toy is marked with the Marklin brand logo on the bottom of the plane. There are only three known examples of this beautifully styled airplane. This offering provides aviation collectors with a unique opportunity to acquire a very scarce airplane.
