Probably By Althof-Bergmann Company. New York City - Late 1870's - 8 3/4" Long. Purchased from Donal P. Markey Formerly in the Paul Cole Collection In truth, this rare toy is an amalgam of the work of several different manufacturers. The wheels, with their intricate swirling design, were made by the Ives Company; the bells are generic nickel plated steel bells from a Connecticut maker; only the various tin components appear to be made by Althof-Bergmann. The assembly and ultimate marketing company was Althof-Bergmann.
