Walter Cunningham Medal Awarded By Barcelona Mayor - This lot features a beautiful medal presented by the Mayor of Barcelona to astronaut Walter Cunningham upon a visit to Spain. The medallion is inscribed with "IX Salón de la Infancia y de la Juventud" which translates to "Children and Youth Hall." This medal is attached to a metal chain, and includes the original jewelry case. After serving as a fighter pilot for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps, Cunningham was selected as part of the third group of astronauts by NASA in October 1963, and proceeded to become the lunar module pilot for the Apollo 7 mission. He retired on August 1, 1971, and in 2008, he was awarded the NASA Distinguished Service Medal. This lot includes the original certificate of authentication issued by R&R Enterprises, as well as the supplementary certificate of authentication issued by Scott Velvet, president of Hollywood Rock-N Country.
