Description
Al Held was born in 1928 in Brooklyn, New York. He began his artistic studies at the Art Students League and subsequently traveled to Paris under the GI Bill in 1950 to study at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere until 1953. After returning to New York, Held became one of the leading avant-garde artists famous for his hard-edge, abstract geometric drawings, paintings and multiples. From 1962 to 1980 he was an Associate Professor of Art at Yale University. In 1981 he returned to Italy and settled part time in Tuscany. His work is found in important private collections and public institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.Stone Ridge 2 is an original etching on paper numbered 30/65 on verso, which is part of the artist's Stone Ridge series.
