Beautiful large original lithograph with rich color, depth, and interest? by Robert Rauschenberg titled "Most Distant Visible Part of the Sea", 1979. Born in Port Arthur, Texas, Rauschenberg (1925 – 2008) studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and the Académie Julian in Paris, France. In 1948, he and his wife Susan Weil attended Black Mountain College in North Carolina, where he studied under Josef Albers. He is well known for his “Combines” done in the 1950s during the transition from Abstract Expressionism to Pop Art. He worked with found objects and non-traditional materials. This lithograph is a good example of his mastery of collage, photography, printmaking and papermaking. He was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1993. He also won a Grammy Award for his album design of Talking Heads album "Speaking in Tongues". Embossed blindstamp of printer Styria Studio in lower margin. Provenance: Phyllis Lucas Gallery, NYC.
