"Make and Make Believe; The Work-Play Books" by Arthur I. Gates and Miriam Blanton Huber, illustrated by George Richards, published by Macmillan Company, New York, June 1937 printing [1st printing was issued April 1930]. Collection of various entertaining stories and fairy tales which children can read, play and perform.
Hard boards, original cloth, color illustrated boards, black lettering on spine [a little wear]; 5.1/2" x 7.1/2"; illustrated endpapers, "Marguerite Stubbard" is pencil written on top of the title page; 310 pages with many text and full-page color illustrations, soiling and wear, a few page corner folds [see photos], good condition.
George Mather Richards (1880-1958) was an illustrator and painter in the 1900s. Throughout his career, he illustrated many textbooks and children's books. Richards is the illustrator of the widely produced 1918 World War I poster titled, "Oh, Boy! That's the Girl!"
