(8vo) full brown calf with red morocco spine label, five raised bands, decorative gilt stamping, marbled endpapers, and a ribbon marker. First Edition, second issue with the corrected frontispiece and 14-line errata.
Upon finishing this novel in 1842, Dickens called it, "immeasurably the best of my stories." His principal object was "to show how Selfishness propagates itself" in a story whose hero is only one of a brilliant cast of characters, ranging from hypocritical Mr. Pecksniff and his daughters and the disreputable Mrs. Gamp to the arch-villain Jonas Chuzzlewit.

Spine sunned and scuffed with a small nick to the spine head and general shelfwear; a bit of foxing to the plates, largely along the extremities; period owner’s ink signature to a prefatory blank leaf.
