Item Details
Description
George III silver mustard pot of plain cylindrical form with reeded borders, the hinged cover with plain thumbpiece and conforming reed detail to the loop handle (liner deficient). Hallmarked Robert Hennell I & David Hennell II, London 1796. Height including handle measures 2 3/8 inches (6 cm), weight 3.52 ozt (109.6 grams).
Condition
The mustard pot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Many deeper scratches are visible and numerous nicks and pitting marks in the metal, also some minor surface dints. The lid is slightly out of alignment with the base but the hinges are still in good working order. Interior was probably once gilded, but this has now faded. The full set of hallmarks on the main body are very rubbed and partly distorted, however the part hallmarks of maker's mark and lion passant struck to the inside of the lid, are much clearer.
