About the artists: Vladimir Kostetsky (November 18 (December 1), 1905, the village of Kholmy - May 26, 1968, Kiev) - Ukrainian Soviet painter, People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1960), corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1967).
Biography
All his life he hid the true date of birth and connection with his father in connection with the revolutionary activity of his father [1].
The artist’s father, Kostetsky Nikolai Danilovich (1873-1948) was a botanist, breeder and public figure, the author of books on floriculture, created more than 30 new varieties of roses in the Nikitsky Botanical Garden. Mother Alexander Nikolaevna (maiden name Tychina, of noble origin) was engaged in teaching. Both were engaged in revolutionary activities, because of which my father was in prison 5 times, spent 10 years in exile. He grew up and studied painting with the future artist Alexander Saenko, (parents taught together at the School of Horticulture in Borzna, were friends, then corresponded) [1].
He studied at the Kiev Art Institute (1922-1928) with Krichevsky Fedor Grigorievich; taught there (since 1937; professor since 1947). He lived in Kiev, at 8/14 on B. Zhitomirskaya Street, at the end of his life at 14, Ivan-Maryanenko Lane.
The first wife with children during the second world left for Australia for permanent residence. The second wife, Novokreschenova Galina Nikolaevna, sculptor, author of the monument to Leo Tolstoy in Moscow, monuments to Dostoevsky and Gorky. She had a surname that was unsuccessful by Soviet standards, so she was distorted in every possible way, they wrote either "new cheeks", or somehow, only so that the name did not include "baptism" From the second marriage, the artist had two sons Dmitry and Alexander. Alexander Kostetsky (1954-2010) also became an artist, was a member of the National Artists Union from 2003 to the day of his death in 2010 [2]. The third wife, Subbotina Antonina Ivanovna (1924–2013), a sculptor, gave birth to the last, sixth child, daughter Kostetskaya Olga Vladimirovna (born 1955), who also became a painter and painter, having graduated from Kiev State Art Institute.
Vladimir Kostetsky was friends with the artist Ilya Shtilman. They led a landscape workshop at the Kiev Art Institute.
Kostetsky Vladimir Nikolaevich died of a stroke on May 26, 1968. He was buried at the Baykovsky cemetery in Kiev. His last wife, Subbotina Antonina Ivanovna, who died of a stroke on September 20, 2013, was buried next to him [source not specified 1727 days].
Art activity
The painting "Return" on a postage stamp of the USSR (1979)
Vladimir Kostetsky adhered to the basic principles of socialist realism, but within the given framework he found the opportunity to express universal values. Painting V. Kostetskogo somewhat restrained in color, but rich in tonal nuances [3].
In 1939, Kostetskiy creates one of his best works. He decides to write the hard life of the great poet Shevchenko in exile, wanting to depict a moment where not only the tragedy of Taras Grigoryevich would be covered, but his courage and ability to resist fate. Thus was born the plot of the picture "Taras Shevchenko in exile. After the drill." The composition of the work is simple and expressive. Barracks. To the left on the plank beds is a martyred, barely alive after the drill soldiers. Shevchenko is sitting next to the same bunks. He is tired, he is seized with heavy thoughts that haunt. There is not a single external movement in the work: one character lies, the other sits. At the same time, the artist of meditation masterfully and professionally depicts the internal movement of thoughts, creating a sense of drama. [4]
During the Great Patriotic War he painted posters, leaflets, portraiture. His works are distinguished by a careful study of the plot, convincing characters, high pictorial merits ("Return", "Presentation of a party ticket at the front") [2] [5].
Kostetsky’s works are in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the National Museum of T. Shevchenko, the NAOMA Museum (Kiev), the Simferopol Art Museum, and the author’s copy of the work “Return” is in the State Tretyakov Gallery.
The canvas "Return", presented at the Stalin Prize, Stalin did not like. It was already bad that this author did not paint a single portrait of the leader. By his totalitarian standards, the painting “Return” was devoid of heroic pathos, it was too personal in nature, because on it the artist depicted the scene of his own arrival from the front on vacation, a real landing in front of the artist’s apartment on Bolshaya Zhitomirskaya Street in Kiev, where his family lived and subsequently lived his son, Alexander Kostetsky. However, people very much loved this simple picture, bought up postcards and stamps on which it was reproduced many times..
