Description
Robert Fabe was born in Chicago, IL and grew up in Cincinnati, OH. He attended Withrow High School, as well as the Art Academy of Cincinnati after taking up painting with his father. During his time at the academy, Fabe worked among the bright minds of Herman Wessel, John E. Weis and Meyer Abel. He then went on to receive a scholarship in 1939 to study at the Art Students League in New York City with Arnold Blanch, George Grosz and Raphael Soyer. He then assisted Blanch as a muralist before returning to Cincinnati, where he then opened a studio in 1940-41. During World War II, Fabe served in Europe for 2 ½ years and reestablished himself in Cincinnati by 1945. Until 1987, he held faculty positions at the University of Cincinnati Department of Design, Architecture and Art, following years at the the Art Academy of Cincinnati.
