Item Details
Description
The Tempest by William Shakespeare. Illustrations in Color by Paul Woodroffe and Songs by Joseph Moorat. London: Chapman & Hall, 1908.

"The Tempest" is a play written by William Shakespeare, believed to have been first performed in 1611. The play is set on a remote island, where Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, lives in exile with his daughter Miranda after being overthrown by his brother Antonio. Prospero uses his magical powers to shipwreck the King of Naples and his entourage on the island, including his traitorous brother, with the intention of regaining his dukedom. The play explores themes of power, betrayal, forgiveness, and reconciliation. It is considered one of Shakespeare's final plays and is known for its poetic language, complex characters, and exploration of human nature.
