Description
Wonderful double-sided ambrotype of a well-dressed man by photographic artist Issac Rehn of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dating to the mid-late 1850s, this style of presentation is noteworthy in that the image is visible from both sides of the plate. It is set in a special “swing” case that Rehn secured a patent for in 1854.
An enterprising man with unique spiritualist leanings, Rehn is regarded as an innovator in early photography. A scarce object.
