Description

We are auctioning a great piece of history here!

This Museum Quality WW2 Imperial Japanese Navy Rear Admiral Bicorne-Hat and Epaulets and has been identified as belonging to a very well known Rear Admiral.

The Brass plate on the front of the case is his surname and ID's him as:

The brass plate translates to:

= Kinoshita

Since there was only one Rear Admiral with the surname of Kinoshita, then these items belonged to none other than, Rear Admiral Mitsuo Kinoshita.

Rear Admiral Mitsuo Kinoshita was commanding a ship, the Fuso Class Battleship "Fuso", which was involved in the attack on Pearl Harbor!

Rear Admiral Kinoshita attended the Kumamoto Naval Academy 43rd (23/95).

The Fuso was assigned to BatDiv 2, First Fleet, and they were orderd on 7 Dec. 1941 to support the 1st Air Fleet while they ran their bombing runs on Pearl Harbor.

Rear Admiral Kinoshita was also involved in the First Bombing of Japan on 18th April 1942 by James H. Doolittle and his Doolittle raiders, from the US Carrier "Hornet".

On the 19th April 1942, after Tokyo was bombed, the Rear Admiral Kinoshita and his ship Fuso was ordered to try and run down and sink the Hornet, however they failed to do so and on th 20th of April were recalled to Hashirajima.

As you can see this Hat and Epaulets have huge historic as well as collectors value!

It also includes the wonderful original case which still bears the surename of Mr. Kinoshita on a brass plate.
