American, mid 19th century, highly figured bookmatched mahogany veneers throughout, scrolled leaf and flame carved headboard, blind fretwork pilasters, 115 x 74 x 85 in., inside 64 x 77-1/2 in.
Provenance: From the estate of Mrs. Eugenia Fairfax, came out of Oak Hill Plantation, the ancestral home of President James Monroe and his wife in Loudoun County, Virginia where the Fairfax family lived from 1852 to 1922. Descended Lt. Col. John W. Fairfax (1828-1908) to his son, Henry Fairfax (1850-1916), to his wife Eugenia Tennant Fairfax (1873-1966), to her daughter Eugenia Tennant Fairfax (1897-1986)
Condition
very good condition, repolished and with some conservation, scattered veneer repairs and distress including at canopy, some minor shrinkage cracks and distress at laminations
