BIOGRAPHY:
Melvin Waite was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1917. He worked most of his career as a commercial artist. He served in the military during WW2. In 1949 he married Ruth Iversen. They lived for a time in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Ruth and Melvin, both artists, shared their love of painting and their love of the sea. In 1963, they established the Ruth Waite Studio Gallery in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, which remained open for about 30 years. Melvin, who signed his works M. C. Waite, became well known for his seascapes, but also painted local landscapes. Ruth's paintings were local landscapes and covered bridges, but especially favored painting harbor scenes of the Cape Cod area. Melvin died in Dennis Port, Massachusetts in 1994.
